zinc-a-licious

Yay!  I love ZINC! My favorite coffee/cafe place in Laguna always has the best treats…including oatmeal.  This lovely breakfast was oatmeal with salt and vanilla syrup…plain and delicious!

mOMent:  Sweet and salt have their own merit when singled out.  They also happen to go so nicely together…what is your favorite sweet or salty treat?

Vanilla beans are so much fun! And vanilla bean simple syrup is a breeze to make, and goes with everything…

1 C cooked oatmeal
1-2 T vanilla bean syrup

mOMent: Sometimes the term vanilla or ‘being vanilla’ means being safe or conservative. What about vanilla makes it seem so plain? Are you vanilla?

vanilla coconut cream & pom

What’s the difference between coconut cream and coconut milk?  Well according to the ingredients, coconut cream has coconut milk in it as well as some water followed by varying other ingredients depending on the brand.  This morning I used Savoy Coconut Cream, seemed to do the trick!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T coconut cream
1 t vanilla
1 T agave
2 T dried pomegranate seeds

Directions:

Mix coconut cream, vanilla and agave together and add to oatmeal.  Mix well and garnish with dried pom seeds, enjoy!  I think you will be very satisfied.

mOMent: What did you do before the internet?  How do you use the internet today?  What would happen if you were shut off from technology all together?  Try to give yourself a break today from the techno world and do an activity that doesn’t require any cords or batteries.  You may be surprised at what you find…

mangosteen

A new delightful addition to the kitchen.  This amazing sweet and sour fruit from Southeast Asia is fleshy and soft, lending itself to a perfect combination for om of the day.  Remember to ‘de-seed’ the fruit.  We purchased mangosteen in syrup at an Asian market in southern California.  I used some of the syrup from the can to sweeten up the oatmeal in addition to a touch of agave.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
2 T mangosteen  syrup
2 t agave
1/4 t cinnamon
1/2 t vanilla
1/4 C mangosteen
1 t coconut oil

Directions: Mix all ingredients except mangosteen with oatmeal. Garnish with mangosteen and enjoy!
